Jess doesn't lead with the acne story. Not because it still defines her, but because she lived with it long enough to learn to move first: book the flight, say yes, figure out the rest on the way. The skin she dealt with privately and methodically, the way she deals with everything, by working through every option until she had an answer.
Over the years that meant dermatologists, prescriptions, tretinoin, peels, and a cabinet of products. The scars faded slowly. Some unevenness stayed. Not dramatic, just there.
She had tried what her world offered. The question she hadn't asked was what people used long before any of it existed.Jess has always been a skincare person. She just couldn't always afford the kind she wanted, and the natural, ingredient-led products she was drawn to were hard to find. So she went looking. In her twenties she moved to Italy, not to study, but to live, outside Rome with a local family. In Rome she walked into a small natural shop and understood what she'd been looking for: old ingredients, simple formulations, nothing on the label she couldn't pronounce.
That's the Jess who matters here. Authentic to a fault, in her words. Candid in a way that makes some people uncomfortable and others trust her right away. She is not someone who will soften a result to protect a story.
Javier Discovers covers where traditional rituals come from and how they were used. What it can't provide is a real person's experience. Jess can. She is an unpaid collaborator on this site, and Javier Discovers provides the products she uses, so she isn't a neutral stranger, and we'd rather tell you that up front. What she has agreed to is simple: report what she actually notices, week by week, including anything that disappoints her or doesn't suit her skin.
The rituals are grouped into three phases, moving across the regions this site covers. This is what Jess is trying, not a treatment plan, and not a promise of results.
Each phase is published as it finishes, in Jess's own words, exactly as it happened, including the parts that don't go the way anyone hoped.
